Hi everyone, I’m Gayatri. I’m currently a Market Analyst at Ciena, having graduated with an MPhys in Physics and Astrophysics from the University of Leeds.
My journey into the telecoms industry began at the First Wave Conference in 2022. As a recent graduate exploring career options, this conference provided invaluable insights into the vast opportunities within the communications technology sector. Engaging with both newcomers and veterans of the industry sparked my passion, and I have been captivated ever since!
My background in physics has honed my analytical skills and critical thinking, which have been instrumental in my role. At Ciena, I focus on researching emerging technologies, particularly in AI, and exploring their potential impacts on network infrastructure. Being at the forefront of technological advancements is incredibly exciting, and I look forward to continuing this journey of discovery and innovation.

Alistair studied Geography with Oceanography at the University of Southampton and followed this up with a Masters degree in Hydrographic Surveying from UCL. Shortly afterwards, he found work as an offshore surveyor, a position that took him to far-flung locations all over the world. Following his time offshore, he found himself on land again providing technical support to a variety of civil engineering schemes.
He started his life in the telecoms world in 2019 when he joined ASN as a Cable Route Engineer. Five years at ASN saw him work on a number of exciting projects and was the lead engineer on projects spanning a total of over 30,000km worth of cable.
Following a short stint in the ASN Fleet Services department and a little more time offshore, Alistair moved to BT in May 2024, where he now provides advice on all things marine related.
